In a strategic move to increase insurance penetration in Nigeria—currently hovering around just one percent—the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has partnered with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) to raise awareness and deepen understanding of insurance among public sector workers.
As part of this effort, NAICOM recently organized a capacity-building workshop in Abuja focused on the Group Life Assurance Policy. The event brought together key stakeholders from federal ministries, departments, and agencies to promote better knowledge and more effective implementation of the policy.
In her opening remarks, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, represented by Mrs. Oyekunle Patience, highlighted the crucial role of insurance in protecting the welfare of civil servants and ensuring financial security for their families. She commended President Bola Tinubu for the renewal of the annuity policy and praised NAICOM’s initiative in organizing the training session.
Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, represented by the Deputy Commissioner for Finance and Administration, Mr. Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon, reaffirmed NAICOM’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and robust policy execution. He expressed confidence that the collaboration with OHCSF would help accelerate the adoption of life insurance within the federal workforce.
The workshop was designed to equip civil servants with the knowledge and tools needed to fully understand, manage, and benefit from the Group Life Assurance Policy—a cornerstone of the Federal Government’s welfare scheme.
The initiative represents a significant step forward in the government’s broader effort to strengthen social protection mechanisms and promote financial resilience among its workforce.
