Insurance underwriting giant SanlamAllianz Nigeria has unveiled its first-ever Essay and Storytelling Competition, targeting young Nigerians aged 10 to 16. The initiative aims to inspire creativity, promote self-expression, and cultivate important life values among the nation’s youth.
Unlike traditional writing contests, the SanlamAllianz competition integrates gamification and storytelling to engage participants in a dynamic and meaningful way. The contest is designed to spark bold ideas, while nurturing values such as discipline, confidence, and purpose.
Chris Ekwonwa, Head of Strategy, Marketing, and Customer Relations at SanlamAllianz Nigeria, disclosed that the firm is partnering with Africa Comicade to organize the nationwide competition.
“The competition invites creative essays or short stories from children across Nigeria, giving them an opportunity to showcase their imagination, originality, and voice,” Ekwonwa said. “Winners will receive cash prizes of up to N200,000, branded gift items, and national recognition.”
He emphasized that the initiative goes beyond writing. “It’s about empowerment. It’s about using storytelling and writing as a gamified platform to introduce young people to broader conversations around purpose, imagination, and financial literacy.”
Ekwonwa added that SanlamAllianz remains committed to nurturing the next generation, noting that confidence and self-belief are essential foundations for success—and should be instilled early.
“At SanlamAllianz, we believe confidence starts young—when children are empowered to dream, share their stories, and believe in the power of their voice,” he said.
The competition is open to young writers nationwide, and entries will be judged on creativity, clarity, originality, and alignment with the contest’s core themes.
