Governor of Katsina State, Dr. Umar Dikko Radda, has pledged his administration’s full support for the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) operated by the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), reaffirming his commitment to improving workers’ welfare in the state.
The governor made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the NSITF Corporate Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, where he was received by the Fund’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Barrister Oluwaseun Mayomi Faleye, alongside other members of the executive management team and board.
Speaking during the visit, Faleye commended the governor’s proactive engagement with federal institutions and reiterated the Fund’s dedication to promoting safer workplaces and protecting Nigerian workers through the Employees’ Compensation Scheme.
He noted that prioritising workers’ welfare directly contributes to national productivity and economic growth. “A workforce that feels secure and valued is a more productive workforce,” he said.
Faleye, however, expressed concern over the low level of compliance with the Employees’ Compensation Scheme among states and local governments across the country. He urged Governor Radda to ensure Katsina State and its local councils fully implement the scheme for the benefit of workers and improved service delivery.
“The non-compliance of many states and local governments is worrisome, given its implications for both the workforce and national development,” Faleye warned.
In response, Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with NSITF in implementing the scheme. He also stated that part of his visit was to assess the performance of Barrister Samaila Abdu, the newly appointed Executive Director of Administration at NSITF, who hails from Katsina State.
“I make it a point to visit indigenes of Katsina who hold key positions at the federal level to see how they are representing the state,” the governor said.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both the Katsina State Government and NSITF to ensuring workers’ safety, welfare, and productivity as part of broader national labour reforms.
