The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has provided start-up kits and work tools to fifty-seven beneficiaries of its Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS), as part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and empower workers who suffered work-related injuries or disabilities.
Speaking during the presentation of start-up kits to three beneficiaries at the Fund’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, the Managing Director of NSITF, Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye—represented by the General Manager, Claims and Compensation, Mrs. Nkiru Ede-Ogunnaike—reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.
Faleye noted that vocational rehabilitation, which includes reorientation, training, and empowerment of injured or disabled workers, remains a key statutory responsibility of the NSITF as outlined in the Employees Compensation Act (2010).
Among the beneficiaries were Philip Anjor Terwase, trained in furniture making; Daniel Onah Imale, trained in auto diagnosis; and Nanbur Ezekiel, trained in POS operations. They expressed gratitude to the Fund for providing them with a renewed opportunity to earn a living and contribute meaningfully to society.
Under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme, employers remit one percent of their employees’ salaries as a premium to the NSITF. In return, the Fund offers compensation, rehabilitation, and other forms of support to workers in cases of work-related injuries, disabilities, diseases, or death.
