Lasaco Assurance Plc has unveiled the Safe Start Initiative, a maternal health programme designed to promote safer childbirth and improve infant care among underserved families.
The initiative was launched on Tuesday at the Ogba Primary Health Care Centre in Ikeja, where the company distributed maternity kits to new and expectant mothers. Each kit included essential hygiene and childcare items such as underlays, antiseptics, maternity pads, and baby diapers — all aimed at ensuring proper postnatal care and hygiene.
Beyond the donations, Lasaco hosted an interactive session on insurance-backed education plans, encouraging mothers to begin early financial planning to secure their children’s futures.
“The Safe Start Initiative is not just about giving out materials; it’s about empowering women with knowledge, care, and foresight,” said Mojibola Sonibare, Head of Underwriting at Lasaco Assurance Plc. “Every item in the maternity kit was carefully selected to ease the journey of motherhood. Through our financial education session, we want families to see that securing a child’s future begins with simple, practical steps.”
Sonibare emphasized that maternal and infant health are vital to national development, noting that the initiative reflects Lasaco’s commitment to supporting safe births and healthier beginnings for Nigerian families.
Also speaking at the event, Adedayo Adetokun, Head of Strategy, Research, and Communications, described the initiative as a continuation of Lasaco’s corporate social responsibility drive, focused on making measurable social impact through community partnerships.
“The Safe Start Initiative reflects our belief that corporate growth must go hand-in-hand with social progress,” Adetokun said.
The event drew attendance from community health officials and local mothers, many of whom expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support amid rising healthcare and childcare costs.
According to Oluseye Smart, Head of Corporate Communications, the programme embodies Lasaco’s mission to extend care beyond insurance.
“This is our way of giving back to families, supporting the nurturing of newborns, and promoting healthier homes,” Smart noted.
To close the event, Adesoji Onaadepo, Head of Internal Audit, encouraged mothers to remain diligent in raising their children, describing them as “the leaders of tomorrow and the hope for a brighter future.”
The Safe Start Initiative reinforces Lasaco Assurance’s dedication to building healthier families and stronger communities, showcasing how the company’s purpose continues to extend well beyond insurance services.
