The inaugural Heirs Insurance Travel Festival made a strong debut on Saturday, November 29, at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, uniting travel enthusiasts, diplomats, influencers, entrepreneurs and young Nigerians in a vibrant celebration of culture and a forceful push for fairer travel policies across Africa.
Beyond the festivities, the event doubled as an advocacy platform aimed at challenging restrictive foreign policies, outdated bilateral agreements, and administrative barriers that limit travel opportunities for millions of Africans. By hosting the event, Heirs Insurance Group positioned itself as a key voice pushing for a more inclusive and equitable travel ecosystem.
A recurring theme among speakers was the urgent need to simplify visa procedures and strengthen continental travel frameworks. Panellists argued that Africans should be able to move more freely across borders, supported by harmonised policies and improved security systems.
One of the festival’s highlight sessions, “Where Your Nigerian Passport Can Take You,” was moderated by Heirs Insurance Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ifesinachi Okpagu, and featured popular travel creators Zim Erobu, Adenike Tejuoso and Steven Ndukwu. The trio advocated for a “borderless Africa” with fewer intra-African travel restrictions and urged embassies to refund visa fees when applications are rejected, describing the current non-refundable system as unfair and financially burdensome.
Speaking at the event, Okpagu said the festival was designed to confront persistent inequities within the travel and migration ecosystem.
“The Heirs Insurance Travel Festival provides the platform to address critical challenges within the often-overlooked travel ecosystem, ensuring that travel and migration policies are equitable for all,” she said. “Access, safety, and empowerment should be for everyone, and we are building the platforms and partnerships that make global mobility attainable.”
The event marks a significant step in elevating conversations around Africa’s travel barriers, while reflecting Heirs Insurance Group’s commitment to innovation, community engagement and social impact.
