The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the welfare and financial security of its personnel through expanded insurance and support schemes.
Speaking in Kaduna, Director-General of the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation, Julius Osifo, said the initiative aligns with directives from the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shu’aibu, to strengthen welfare structures across the force.
Central to the effort is the Nigerian Army Personnel Insurance Scheme (NAPIS), launched in partnership with NEM Insurance Plc in 2023. The scheme provides coverage for death, disability, and hospitalisation arising from military duties, alongside access to soft loans and financial services for personnel, veterans, and host communities.
Osifo noted that in the event of a soldier’s death, salaries and allowances will continue to be paid to next of kin for two years, offering critical financial stability to affected families.
Additional components include the Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme, the Directorate of Non-Public Funds, and plans for a dedicated microfinance bank to expand financial access.
Military authorities say the initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at building a professional, resilient, and combat-ready force, with improved welfare expected to boost morale and operational effectiveness.
The programme has also introduced digital enhancements to make insurance services more accessible, with officials urging personnel to fully utilise the scheme as a safeguard for their families.
