The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund is intensifying efforts to reposition worker welfare as a central pillar of Nigeria’s economic stability through its Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS).
Driven by renewed advocacy and institutional reforms, the scheme is gaining traction across states, with the agency ramping up engagement at the highest levels of government to expand adoption and compliance.
Managing Director of NSITF, Oluwaseun Faleye, has led strategic outreach to state governors, securing growing support for the initiative. In Taraba State, the Fund reached a partnership agreement with Governor Agbu Kefas to strengthen implementation of the scheme.
The ECS provides compensation for workers in cases of injury, disability, or death in the course of duty, while also reducing employer liability and promoting industrial harmony.
NSITF is pushing for structured integration of the scheme into state systems, including making compliance certification a requirement for public procurement, contractor registration, and partnership agreements.
The agency maintains that expanding ECS coverage will not only safeguard workers but also enhance public trust, improve workplace safety, and reinforce social protection frameworks nationwide.
With increasing state-level buy-in, the ECS is emerging as a key instrument in redefining labour welfare and institutional accountability across Nigeria.
