Kunle Ahmed, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Insurance Company, continues to shape Nigeria’s insurance landscape through a leadership style rooted in discipline, collaboration, and service.
Beyond his corporate role, Ahmed currently serves as Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association, where his influence extends across the broader industry. Under his leadership, the association has strengthened its role as a unifying voice for licensed insurance companies, promoting professionalism, ethical standards, and industry cohesion.
As the 26th chairman of the NIA—an organisation established in 1971—Ahmed has focused on fostering stronger collaboration among member firms while addressing gaps such as brand perception and industry alignment. His approach reflects a commitment to building trust and deepening engagement within the sector.
In a recent demonstration of this philosophy, Ahmed organised a landmark event to honour past chairmen and former governing council members of the association. The ceremony, held on April 30, 2026, celebrated individuals whose contributions laid the foundation for the growth of Nigeria’s insurance industry.
Speaking at the event, Ahmed emphasised the importance of recognising service and legacy. He noted that the honourees played critical roles in shaping the association, often without financial reward, and that their contributions continue to inspire future progress.
The event drew notable industry figures, including Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, alongside other past leaders and stakeholders. Special recognition was also given to Olabode Ogunlana, whose decades-long contribution to the industry remains widely respected.
Observers say the initiative reflects Ahmed’s broader leadership philosophy—one that values institutional memory while encouraging excellence among emerging professionals. Industry stakeholders noted that honouring past leaders can motivate younger practitioners and reinforce a culture of achievement.
Ahmed’s extensive professional background underpins his leadership. He is an associate of both the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria. He has also received executive education from IMD Business School and Lagos Business School.
In addition to leading AXA Mansard Insurance, Ahmed serves on several boards across sectors including healthcare, oil and gas, and technology. His affiliations include the West African Insurance Institute, the French Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and regional initiatives such as the ECOWAS Brown Card scheme.
Reflecting on the future, Ahmed called for sustained unity and resilience within the industry. He stressed that while significant progress has been made over the past five decades, there is still more work required to strengthen the sector’s contribution to national development.
Through his leadership at both corporate and industry levels, Kunle Ahmed continues to position Nigeria’s insurance sector for greater relevance, impact, and long-term growth.
