The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Oluwaseun Faleye, has described the death of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, as a significant loss to the country’s labour movement.
In a condolence message issued in Abuja, Faleye said the late labour leader made substantial contributions to the protection of workers’ rights and the advancement of social justice in Nigeria.
He described Ugboaja as a committed labour advocate who consistently championed the welfare, dignity and interests of Nigerian workers.
According to the NSITF chief, Ugboaja’s influence extended beyond his official responsibilities at the NLC, particularly through his engagement with stakeholders and his contribution to the broader social protection system.
Remembered for advocacy and leadership
Faleye said Ugboaja distinguished himself through his courage, professionalism and dedication to the labour movement, describing him as an articulate advocate and public servant.
He noted that the late NLC secretary was also a trained lawyer and administrator whose professional experience contributed to his effectiveness in labour relations.
Faleye said Ugboaja was known for building bridges among stakeholders and providing a constructive voice in discussions concerning workers’ protection and welfare.
The NSITF boss added that his commitment to the Nigerian worker earned him an important place in the country’s labour and social protection landscape.
A lasting legacy
According to Faleye, Ugboaja’s record of service would remain an important part of his legacy, particularly his efforts to promote better conditions for workers and defend the principles of social justice.
He said the late labour leader would be remembered not simply for holding the position of NLC General Secretary, but for the values he demonstrated and the impact of his advocacy.
Faleye expressed the NSITF’s condolences to NLC President Joe Ajaero, the leadership and members of the labour organisation, Ugboaja’s family, colleagues and the wider labour community.
He said the loss would be deeply felt by those who worked closely with Ugboaja and by others committed to advancing workers’ rights in Nigeria.
The NSITF managing director prayed for comfort and strength for the deceased’s family and colleagues, while asking for eternal rest for Ugboaja.
