The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Oluwaseun Faleye, has urged government agencies to deepen collaboration to improve workers’ welfare, boost productivity and strengthen Nigeria’s social security system.
Faleye made the call on Thursday in Abuja in a goodwill message at the Technical Retreat on Presidential Priority, Ministerial Deliverables and Performance Management System (PMS), organised by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
He commended the ministry for convening the retreat, describing it as an important forum for dialogue, coordination and the exchange of ideas among institutions with related responsibilities.
According to him, effective public service delivery depends not only on the performance of individual agencies but also on their ability to work together towards shared goals.
Faleye, who was represented at the event by his Technical Assistant, Dayo Aloa, said the ministry and NSITF had a common responsibility to strengthen public institutions, deliver value and improve the welfare and security of Nigerians.
Explaining the Fund’s mandate, he said NSITF administers the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS), established under the Employees’ Compensation Act 2010, to provide compensation and support to employees and their dependants in cases involving work-related injuries, occupational diseases, disabilities and death.
He stressed that the scheme was designed to ensure that workers and their families were not left without support when qualifying workplace incidents affected their livelihoods.
The NSITF chief executive said workers’ welfare was closely linked to national productivity, industrial harmony and sustainable economic growth, adding that employees who feel protected are better positioned to contribute effectively to their organisations.
He noted that the Fund’s responsibilities went beyond processing claims and paying compensation to include engaging employers and workers, raising awareness of the scheme, promoting compliance with statutory obligations and encouraging workplace health and safety.
Faleye said NSITF remained committed to making the Employees’ Compensation Scheme accessible, responsive, transparent and effective for eligible beneficiaries.
He urged government institutions to sustain cooperation and coordination to strengthen service delivery and ensure workers receive the protection and support to which they are entitled.
