Epicure Insurance Brokers Limited has unveiled plans to expand its services, accelerate digital transformation and deepen insurance penetration in Nigeria as the company celebrates its 10th anniversary.
The company disclosed its growth priorities at an anniversary gala in Lagos, where its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Oyinpreye Aigbogun, said the next decade would focus on creating wider insurance opportunities through collaboration and the integration of insurance into different areas of financial services.
“We should expect a richer and wider scope of services, more digitisation and deeper insurance penetration in Nigeria,” Aigbogun said.
She noted that Nigeria’s insurance penetration remained relatively low compared with some African countries, including South Africa and Ghana, presenting opportunities for operators, regulators and industry advocates to expand coverage and improve public understanding of insurance.
“There’s still a lot of work to be done and everyone has a role to play, especially the regulators and the other advocates in the industry,” she said.
Aigbogun identified collaboration as a major pillar of the company’s strategy, particularly efforts to embed insurance products into a wider range of financial services and everyday economic activities.
She said Epicure would explore partnerships and new service channels to make insurance more accessible over the next 10 years.
“So, over the next 10 years, we’re going to look at more collaboration and how to embed insurance in as many types of services as possible. Without insurance, there is no life. Insurance is everything,” she said.
Reflecting on the company’s growth since its establishment, Aigbogun attributed its survival and progress to a commitment to excellence, integrity and ethical business practices.
She said maintaining high standards and doing what was right, even when there was no external scrutiny, had helped the company build trust and sustain business relationships.
The Chairman of Epicure Insurance Brokers, Obinnia Abajue, also credited shared values, mutual support and strong relationships for the company’s progress over the past decade.
In his welcome address, Abajue said the company’s journey had involved overcoming challenges, pursuing opportunities and making decisions consistent with its long-term objectives.
He noted that the founders had deliberately turned down business opportunities that conflicted with the organisation’s values in favour of building a sustainable business.
“Along the way, we turned down opportunities that did not fit who we wanted to be in favour of values we believed were sustainable,” he said.
Abajue added that unity of purpose and mutual support had helped the company navigate its early challenges and establish a foundation for future growth.
“We agreed that supporting each other mattered more than winning any argument. It meant we would either succeed and grow together, or fail together,” he said.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to protecting clients, as well as the people and assets that matter to them, despite changes in the business environment.
Delivering the keynote address, entrepreneur and long-standing Epicure client Ibrahim Zibiri highlighted profitability, human capital development, strong business foundations and adaptability as important factors in business sustainability.
He argued that profitability enabled companies to reinvest in the structures needed for long-term growth, while emphasising that employees remained central to achieving sustainable business performance.
