The Nigerian Agricultural Youths Forum has lauded the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Yazid Shehu Danfulani, for his contributions to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agricultural transformation agenda.
In a statement signed by its secretary, Ugoche Audu, and released in Abuja on Friday, the forum described Danfulani as a “pivotal figure” in the drive toward food security and economic growth.
According to the group, Danfulani has aligned NAIC’s operations with the administration’s goal of modernising farming and empowering farmers nationwide. Under President Tinubu’s leadership, agriculture has been positioned as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy, with emphasis on improved techniques, higher yields, and stronger protection for farmers against risks.
Speaking at the recent National Agricultural Summit in Abuja, Danfulani reaffirmed NAIC’s commitment to “de-risking agriculture” through insurance products that shield farmers from climate shocks, pests, and market volatility.
One of his flagship reforms, the forum noted, is the expansion of subsidised insurance schemes for smallholder farmers, who constitute over 70 percent of Nigeria’s agricultural workforce. This initiative, it said, has boosted farmers’ confidence to adopt modern practices and scale up production.
Danfulani has also introduced digital solutions to simplify policy enrolment, claims processing, and risk assessments. With the use of satellite imagery and data analytics, NAIC can now monitor farms in real-time and respond more quickly to disasters.
Farmers have already begun to feel the impact. Aisha Ibrahim, a rice farmer from Kebbi State, said NAIC’s insurance helped her recover from last year’s flood losses and expand her operations.
Beyond insurance, NAIC has partnered with agricultural institutes to train farmers in climate-smart practices, further supporting the government’s goal of making Nigeria a net exporter of agricultural products.
The forum described Danfulani’s leadership as “a beacon of hope” for the sector, adding that his continued drive is putting Nigeria on track to secure its food supply and safeguard farmers’ livelihoods.
