Boeing International Corporation has pledged to assist Nigerian airlines in securing adequate aircraft insurance coverage through strategic partnerships with prominent lessors and global financiers. This announcement was made by Mr. Moore Ibekwe, Boeing’s Sales Director for the Africa Region Commercial Airlines, during the opening of the “Boeing Lessor Forum” in Dublin, Ireland, which is scheduled to run from January 12 to 15.
The forum, which brings together key stakeholders in the global aviation industry, presents a unique opportunity for Nigeria to highlight its ongoing reforms in the aviation sector and strengthen ties with international partners. Ibekwe emphasized that the collaboration between Boeing and Nigerian airlines would significantly help mitigate risks and protect against financial losses related to aircraft operations.
“One key aspect of aviation insurance in Nigeria is the requirement for aircraft operators to maintain adequate insurance cover,” Ibekwe noted. “Boosting the capacity of aviation insurance in Nigeria is essential to ensuring the financial soundness and safety of insurance operators in the sector.”
The move comes as the Nigerian government continues its efforts to address various challenges within the country’s aviation industry. Ensuring that airlines have access to reliable and sufficient insurance coverage is seen as crucial to maintaining the stability and safety of the sector. Ibekwe further stated that Boeing’s initiative would contribute to improving the overall risk management capabilities of Nigerian airline operators.
The Boeing official also praised Nigeria for its progress, highlighting the country’s achievement of securing the top position in the Cape Town Convention compliance index in Africa. This milestone is significant as it reflects Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring a more secure and transparent aviation environment.
Additionally, Ibekwe pointed out that issues such as tracking funds by lessors have now been resolved, creating a more favorable landscape for foreign investment in Nigerian aviation.
Ms. Rose Lereece, the organizer of the “Nigerian Aviation Forum” start-off meeting, urged the Nigerian delegation to leverage the opportunities presented by the forum to attract global partnerships and investments that will help further advance the country’s aviation sector.
The Boeing Lessor Forum is expected to serve as a key platform for discussions that will shape the future of aviation insurance and financing in Nigeria, marking an important step toward enhancing the country’s aviation infrastructure and international partnerships.
