The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has concluded the sixth edition of its Mentorship Boot Camp, a programme designed to equip young practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and guidance needed to thrive in the insurance industry.
The four-day camp, held at the College of Insurance and Financial Management (CIFM) in Aseese, Ogun State, brought together 74 participants from underwriting firms, broking houses, and loss adjusting companies. It served as a platform for knowledge-sharing, networking, and leadership development aimed at nurturing the next generation of innovators in the sector.
Declaring the programme open, CIIN President and Chairman of Council, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, urged participants to embrace mentorship as a vital tool for career growth. Themed “Mentorship, Mindset and Momentum: Unlocking Career Growth in a Fast-Changing World,” the boot camp explored how mindset and guidance can accelerate professional development.
In her keynote address, Mrs. Olaitan Oladimeji highlighted the difference between fixed and growth mindsets, stressing that adopting a growth mindset enables mentees to fully benefit from mentorship. Other facilitators, including Mrs. Oredola Kayode-Sanni, who led a personality test session, and Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, who outlined the attributes of a successful mentorship programme, challenged participants to cultivate unique mentorship styles that attract meaningful career investment from mentors.
Motivational sessions featured industry veterans such as Dr. Omoniyi Agboola, Mrs. Muibat Jimoh, and Mrs. Bisola Elias, who shared personal stories of career advancement in the insurance space. Dr. Babatunde Jesusina also delivered a session on mental health, discussing how early life decisions can influence career success.
To encourage practical learning, participants were divided into teams and tasked with designing structured mentorship programmes—covering mentor selection, programme implementation, and success measurement.
Prominent industry leaders, including past presidents of CIIN and CIFM Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Chizoba Ehiogwu, lent their support to the initiative, reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to industry growth.
CIIN Registrar, Mrs. Abimbola Tiamiyu, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the boot camp, commending participants for their enthusiasm. “We are thrilled with the success of this mentorship programme. Effective mentorship is crucial to the future of our industry, and we remain committed to creating opportunities for young professionals to learn, grow, and excel,” she said.
