Cornerstone Insurance Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading insurance providers, has expanded its footprint in the country’s socio-economic landscape with initiatives that go beyond its core insurance operations.
In its latest move, the company unveiled a digital-first learning and development platform aimed at strengthening talent growth across the organisation. The launch marks a significant milestone in Cornerstone’s long-term human capital strategy and underscores its commitment to continuous learning and sustainable performance.
The newly introduced academy combines digital learning tools with purpose-built physical training facilities. While the digital platform is already operational, plans are underway to establish a physical academy that will enhance in-person and hybrid learning experiences.
Developed by the company’s Human Capital team, the Learning Management System (LMS) serves as the academy’s virtual classroom and is now accessible to employees across the Group. A dedicated mobile application and a fully functional academy website have also been deployed, ensuring seamless access to learning resources anytime and anywhere.
Speaking at the launch, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Alangbo, described the academy as a strategic investment in people and the future of the insurance industry. According to him, the initiative reflects the company’s resolve to build a future-ready workforce and foster a culture of continuous learning aligned with its long-term growth ambitions.
In the short term, the academy will drive structured capability development across the Group. Over time, it is expected to evolve into a leading learning and knowledge hub for the insurance and financial services sector in Nigeria and across Africa.
Beyond workforce development, Cornerstone Insurance has also demonstrated its commitment to social impact through community outreach. The company recently partnered with Lagos Food Bank Initiative for its “Show Love with Insurance” campaign, providing hot meals to 500 students across three low-cost private schools in Agege, Lagos.
The beneficiary schools — De Royal School and Al-Huda Schools in Papa Ashaffa, Agege, and Debby & Frank Schools in Morikaz, Agege — received nutritious meals as part of the EduFood programme. The initiative aims to address food insecurity among pupils in underserved communities.
By providing daily meals, the programme seeks to reduce school absenteeism, boost enrolment, improve concentration and academic performance, and ease the financial burden on parents and caregivers struggling to provide lunch for their children.
Through these dual initiatives — investing in employee development and supporting vulnerable communities — Cornerstone Insurance continues to reinforce its role as a socially responsible corporate citizen committed to sustainable growth and meaningful impact.
