Cornerstone Insurance Plc has partnered with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative to provide hot meals to 500 students across three low-cost private schools in Agege, Lagos, as part of its corporate social responsibility drive tagged “Show Love with Insurance.”
The beneficiary schools — De Royal School and Al-Huda Schools in Papa Ashaffa, as well as Debby & Frank Schools in Morikaz — received nutritious meals under the EduFood programme, an initiative designed to support children in underserved communities.
According to the company, the intervention aims to reduce school absenteeism, improve enrolment rates, enhance students’ concentration and academic performance, and ease the financial burden on families who struggle to provide daily meals for their children.
Representing the Group Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Stephen Alangbo, was the Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Cordelia Ekeocha, who joined volunteers in serving meals to the students.
Speaking at the event, Ekeocha described the outreach as deeply meaningful.
“Returning this year feels even more special. When you visit these communities and see the joy on the children’s faces over a simple plate of food, it reinforces our purpose. Over 11 million children in Nigeria face food poverty annually, many under the age of five. Feeding these children is not just about providing meals — it is about showing them they matter and raising awareness about how hunger impacts learning. At Cornerstone, we believe our responsibility extends beyond policies and claims,” she said.
The partnership reflects the company’s commitment to supporting education through nutrition and promoting long-term community development.
In his remarks, Mr. Stephen Alangbo, Group Managing Director/CEO of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, stated that the organisation remains focused on improving lives beyond financial services.
“At Cornerstone, we see our role as more than underwriting risks. Supporting the EduFood programme is a meaningful way to invest in our children’s future, express gratitude to our customers, and contribute to a healthier and better-educated Nigeria. When a child learns on a full stomach, they gain not just knowledge but hope for a brighter future,” he said.
The Agege outreach highlighted the impact of collaborative efforts in addressing social challenges. Cornerstone Insurance Plc reaffirmed its commitment to ethical, customer-focused service while continuing to champion social impact initiatives.
Cornerstone Insurance Plc is licensed and re-certified by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to provide both general and life insurance services. The company was also the first in Nigeria’s insurance industry to introduce an online platform for insurance transactions, leveraging technology to make its services accessible via digital and mobile platforms.
