The President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Mrs Ekeoma Ezeibe, has urged industry players to pursue purposeful growth as a pathway to unlocking the vast potential of Nigeria’s insurance sector.
Ezeibe made the call at the NCRIB Members’ Evening, an industry engagement forum sponsored by Prudential Zenith Life Insurance.
The 23rd president of the council, who assumed office recently in Lagos, has consistently advocated a one-industry agenda aimed at uniting stakeholders across the insurance value chain. She stressed that meaningful progress would only be achieved if the industry worked as a cohesive force, rather than operating in silos.
According to her, Nigeria’s insurance industry can only deepen penetration and rebuild public confidence through deliberate, customer-focused growth.
“Nigeria’s insurance industry has immense potential, but we need growth with purpose—purpose that puts the customer first, empowers brokers, and makes insurance indispensable to every Nigerian,” Ezeibe said.
The NCRIB’s third female president said her leadership vision rests on four strategic pillars: capacity building, industry advocacy, innovation and technology, and stronger member engagement.
She explained that her administration would prioritise collaboration with insurers, regulators and other industry associations to create an enabling environment that supports sustainable growth and innovation.
While acknowledging the sector’s persistent challenges—including low insurance penetration, trust deficits and complex regulatory frameworks—Ezeibe said these issues should be seen as opportunities for deeper collaboration and reform across the industry.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, Mrs Funmi Omo, disclosed that the company had not only met but exceeded its capitalisation requirements, positioning it as a stable and forward-looking insurer.
Omo said hosting the first Brokers’ Evening since Ezeibe’s emergence as NCRIB president was a deliberate show of support for her leadership and vision.
“We are committed to working closely with the NCRIB leadership to achieve this vision. Together, we can position Nigeria’s insurance industry as a major player in the global market,” she said.
