Ultimate Health HMO has launched a new health insurance package, GIFSHIP, aimed at expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare across Nigeria.
The Group, Individual, and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP) is designed to support universal health coverage by offering comprehensive care at a fixed annual premium of ₦38,718 per person.
Regulated by the National Health Insurance Authority, the package covers primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services, targeting individuals, families, and corporate organisations.
Speaking at the launch in Lagos, Managing Director/CEO Lekan Ewenla described the initiative as a strategic step toward making healthcare affordable, accessible, and equitable, in line with the National Health Insurance Authority Act 2022, which mandates health insurance for all Nigerians.
Ewenla noted that GIFSHIP addresses longstanding challenges in the sector, including inconsistent premiums and limited coverage, while introducing a structured risk management system involving healthcare providers and HMOs.
He added that the programme adopts a capitation model at the primary care level and a regulated fee-for-service system for higher levels of care, ensuring efficiency and quality service delivery.
The initiative is expected to improve Nigeria’s health indices by increasing insurance enrollment and reducing out-of-pocket healthcare costs, offering millions of Nigerians a more reliable path to medical care.
