The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the disbursement of over N2.43 billion in insurance benefits to 1,075 families and next-of-kin of deceased personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The presentation ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen welfare support for both serving and fallen officers.
Speaking at the event, Disu described the payment as a key component of the Nigeria Police Welfare Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme. He noted that the disbursement, totaling N2,435,421,584.11, covers insurance claims spanning policy years from 2018 to 2026.
“This presentation is a reminder that the sacrifices of our fallen officers will never be forgotten,” the IGP said, reaffirming that personnel welfare remains central to his administration.
He further pledged sustained improvements in the welfare of serving officers, retirees, and families of deceased personnel, assuring that benefits would be delivered promptly.
“We will continue to ensure that the entitlements of our personnel and their families are paid without delay,” he added.
Force Insurance Officer, Lydia Ameh, commended the IGP’s commitment, noting that the payments were made to 1,075 beneficiaries. She urged recipients to make prudent use of the funds.
Ameh also revealed that the funds represent recoveries from insurance companies previously indebted to the police, adding that the IGP had directed that any insurer found delaying claims would face blacklisting.
The event was attended by senior officers, including newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police and an Assistant Inspector-General, alongside other dignitaries.
