Nigeria’s maiden Insurance Awareness Week has concluded with a strong call from industry stakeholders for policy reforms, ongoing public sensitization, and increased adoption of insurance across the country.
The week-long initiative, organized by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), featured a series of nationwide activities including awareness walks, school visits, market outreaches, and a youth innovation challenge. Events were held simultaneously in Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, and Kano, targeting diverse segments of the population to improve understanding and uptake of insurance.
In her opening remarks, CIIN President, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, stressed the importance of maintaining momentum beyond the week’s activities. “The awareness we have created during this one week is not meant to end here—it must be sustained and built upon,” she said. “Insurance Awareness Week did not begin just last week; it was the result of months of planning and collaboration.”
Ilori reaffirmed CIIN’s commitment to initiatives that foster education, engagement, and growth within the insurance industry. She urged Nigerians to embrace insurance as a vital tool for personal and national security.
“This is the first time in the history of our industry that we are celebrating an Insurance Awareness Week,” she noted. “Our goal is to take insurance to the grassroots and emphasize its critical role in the country’s economic development.”
She also expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for Insurance and other industry stakeholders for their active support, stating that the success of the initiative was made possible through their collaboration.
The event marked a significant step in the industry’s efforts to demystify insurance and position it as a trusted financial safety net for Nigerians.
