Heirs Insurance Group has announced the winners of its inaugural Retirement Dream Competition, a nationwide initiative aimed at helping retired and soon-to-retire Nigerians turn long-cherished aspirations into reality.
Mr Kayode Kolade, a 51-year-old former public servant from Rivers State, emerged as the overall winner of the competition, receiving a ₦2.5m cash grant. The presentation took place at his residence in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
The competition, launched in August 2025 with a total prize pool of ₦5m, was open to senior citizens aged between 50 and 75. Participants were required to submit a one-minute video explaining their retirement dreams and how financial support could help them achieve those goals.
Following a rigorous evaluation process, Ms Rakiya Idris, a 64-year-old retiree from the Federal Capital Territory, was announced as the first runner-up, winning ₦1.5m. Mr Sodeke Olusola, a 60-year-old Lagos resident, finished third and received ₦1m.
Heirs Insurance said the maiden edition attracted hundreds of entries from across the country, including rural communities, underscoring the growing awareness and importance of retirement planning among Nigerians.
Speaking on the initiative, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Life Assurance, Mr Niyi Onifade, commended participants for their creativity and optimism. He described retirement as a phase of fulfilment and new beginnings rather than an end, noting that the competition was designed to inspire retirees to pursue meaningful post-career lives.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to providing accessible insurance solutions that enable Nigerians to enjoy financial security, peace of mind and a dignified retirement.
The Retirement Dream Competition forms part of the newly launched Heirs Insurance Retirees Club, a community platform created to connect retirees nationwide. The club offers access to expert guidance on financial planning, health and wellbeing, as well as lifestyle support after retirement.
Heirs Insurance Group, the insurance arm of Heirs Holdings, operates through Heirs General Insurance Limited, Heirs Life Assurance Limited and Heirs Insurance Brokers. The group serves corporate and individual customers across Nigeria and says it remains focused on advancing financial inclusion through digital and customer-centric insurance solutions.
