The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving regulatory efficiency following a strategic engagement with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) under the Business Environment Enhancement Programme Accelerator (BEEPA).
A delegation from the PEBEC Secretariat, led by Mrs. Aimeya Okpebholo, visited NAICOM to review progress and strengthen collaboration on the 90-day reform initiative, which runs from January 26 to April 26.
Driving Measurable Regulatory Improvements
Speaking during the visit, Okpebholo reiterated PEBEC’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s business environment by enhancing regulatory efficiency across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
She explained that BEEPA clusters selected MDAs into functional groups to deliver measurable, client-focused improvements in service delivery. The initiative, she said, is designed to ensure that regulatory compliance translates into tangible improvements at service points for businesses and citizens.
According to her, the accelerator programme seeks to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, clarify institutional roles, and apply evidence-based validation to improve transparency and speed in government processes.
NAICOM Aligns Reforms with BEEPA Objectives
Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, welcomed the PEBEC delegation and underscored NAICOM’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s financial and economic landscape through effective insurance regulation.
Omosehin briefed the team on ongoing reforms within the Commission aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery. He noted that the reforms align closely with BEEPA’s objectives of promoting regulatory excellence and stakeholder-focused improvements.
He reaffirmed NAICOM’s commitment to ensuring that its processes are transparent, efficient, and responsive to industry operators and the wider public.
Key Focus Areas of BEEPA
Among the core objectives of the accelerator programme are fast-tracking operational improvements that translate laws and policies into efficient public services, eliminating overlapping regulatory functions through improved cluster coordination and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), and promoting service discipline through end-to-end process visibility.
The initiative also incorporates evidence-based validation and a public live-tracking system to strengthen accountability and ensure sustained progress in government service delivery.
The engagement marks another step in ongoing efforts to streamline regulatory processes and foster a more business-friendly environment in Nigeria.
