The Honourable Minister has reaffirmed the critical role of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) in fostering economic stability and national prosperity. Speaking during a formal reception of the newly appointed Management team, the Minister described the NDIC as an indispensable component of the country’s financial safety-net. He urged the new executives to apply their extensive experience and expertise to advance the Corporation’s mission, assuring them of the full support of the Ministry in the execution of their duties.
In his response, Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday, speaking on behalf of the Management team, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve. He assured the Honourable Minister of the team’s unwavering commitment to meeting the expectations of the President and the nation in delivering on the Corporation’s mandate.
Following the Ministerial reception, the new Management team was warmly welcomed by staff at the NDIC Head Office. Addressing the workforce, Mr. Sunday pledged to foster a harmonious working relationship with all staff and emphasized the team’s commitment to elevating the Corporation’s performance. He reiterated that the new leadership would remain focused on delivering on the NDIC’s statutory mandate, guided by the public policy objectives embedded in its enabling legislation.
Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday brings to the role over three decades of experience in financial regulation and supervision. He began his career with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 1989 and spent 24 years in banking supervision. His areas of expertise include corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Before his retirement as Director at the CBN in 2021, he held several strategic roles and handled numerous special assignments that contributed to institutional reform and capacity building within the financial sector.
Also appointed to the NDIC Management team is Dr. Kabir Sabo Katata, who now serves as Executive Director (Operations). Dr. Katata is a seasoned quantitative energy strategist and computational finance expert with over 28 years of multidisciplinary experience spanning telecommunications, IT, energy, finance, and government. He specializes in financial optimization and the application of advanced statistical and mathematical models to banking and deposit insurance. Dr. Katata joined the NDIC in 2012 as Assistant Director in the Research, Policy and International Relations Department and rose to the rank of Director in 2022 before his current appointment.
With a blend of deep expertise and visionary leadership, the new NDIC Management team is poised to strengthen the Corporation’s contributions to financial system stability and institutional excellence.
