In the wake of the enactment of the Data Safety Act 2023, the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to enhance workplace safety, data protection, and overall workers’ welfare.
The collaboration was formalized during an inter-agency meeting held at NSITF headquarters, where both organizations pledged to work together to safeguard the digital privacy of Nigerians.
Speaking during the meeting, NSITF Managing Director, Mr. Oluwaseun Faleye, welcomed the NDPC delegation led by its National Commissioner, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, and emphasized the importance of aligning with the Data Safety Act 2023. He highlighted the Fund’s commitment to compliance by appointing a data safety officer and investing in staff training.
“We understand the responsibility of protecting the data entrusted to us and are taking proactive steps to comply with the law,” Faleye said.
He also called on the NDPC to uphold its own legal obligations by enrolling its staff in the NSITF-administered Employee Compensation Scheme, in accordance with the Employee Compensation Act 2010.
“As we comply with your regulations, we encourage your agency to fulfill its obligations under ours,” he added.
Faleye proposed a skills exchange program where NSITF would provide training for NDPC staff on workplace health and safety, while the Commission would offer capacity-building sessions on data protection for NSITF personnel. He further suggested a joint awareness campaign to educate the public on both agencies’ mandates and strengthen public trust—particularly through the issuance of a data safety certificate by the NDPC.
In response, NDPC National Commissioner, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, welcomed the partnership and pledged the Commission’s full support in working with the NSITF to help realize the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
He emphasized the vital roles both agencies play in advancing national development and contributing to the President’s vision for a transformed Nigeria.
