Olufemi Oduwole
Olufemi Oduwole, a seasoned insurance professional, has been inaugurated as the 12th Chairman of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Lagos Area Committee (NCRIB-LAC). The investiture ceremony, held in Lagos, saw Oduwole outline his administration’s priorities, focusing on strategic collaboration, human capital development, image building, and the sustenance of key initiatives such as the catch-them-young campaign.
Strategic Vision for Growth
In his inaugural speech, Oduwole emphasized the importance of fostering relationships with notable institutions and stakeholders to advance the council’s goals. He pledged to build on the existing collaboration with the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and expand partnerships with professional organizations like ICAN, CIPM, and NIMN to enhance members’ growth.
“Through these relationships, we will exchange ideas and strategies to ensure the sustained development of our profession,” Oduwole stated.
Commitment to Training and Development
Oduwole highlighted the need for continuous human capital development in the fast-paced insurance industry. He announced plans to reintroduce the LAC Open House, a quarterly event where members can engage with industry icons and thought leaders in a relaxed setting.
This initiative, according to him, will reinforce camaraderie among members and provide insights into emerging trends.
Enhancing Public Awareness
On image building, Oduwole pledged to promote insurance knowledge and acceptance through strategic campaigns, including messaging in local Nigerian languages. He also promised to target underserved communities to broaden financial inclusion.
Sustaining the Catch-Them-Young Campaign
Recognizing the strides of his predecessors, Oduwole vowed to maintain and expand the catch-them-young campaign, designed to introduce younger generations to insurance. His administration plans to empower teachers in public and private schools with contemporary skills through online training sessions starting January 2025. The initiative will also recognize and reward outstanding teachers with scholarships and cash prizes.
“This approach ensures that the knowledge imparted to students is of the highest quality, preparing them as future providers and consumers of insurance,” he said.
Call for Unity and Support
Acknowledging the sacrifices required to achieve these ambitious goals, Oduwole called on members and stakeholders for their prayers and support. “A tree, however huge, can never make a forest,” he remarked, urging collective effort to elevate the committee and the council.
National Leadership’s Endorsement
NCRIB President Babatunde Oguntade congratulated Oduwole, describing his election as a testament to his dedication and vision. Oguntade encouraged the new chairman to lead with excellence, build on the foundation laid by his predecessors, and drive progress in the insurance broking sector.
A Distinguished Career in Insurance
Oduwole’s journey in the insurance industry spans over two decades. He began his career at Leverage Insurance in 1999 and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming the company’s Managing Director in 2020. His contributions to the industry include leadership roles within NCRIB, mentorship initiatives, and significant achievements in his alma mater, Eletu Odibo High School.
