One year after rebranding from Royal Exchange to Rex Insurance, the century-old insurer has restated its commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth, signaling a new era in its evolution.
The reaffirmation was made during a breakfast meeting held with insurance brokers in Lagos, where the company’s leadership team reflected on the transformation journey since the July 2024 rebrand. The event also served as a platform to outline the strategic priorities for 2025.
Rex Insurance, now headquartered in Victoria Island, Lagos, has spent the past year undergoing significant changes in leadership, technology integration, and internal culture as part of a broader effort to reposition itself as a dynamic, customer-focused insurer.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director/CEO, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, said the rebrand went beyond a name change and symbolized a deeper organizational shift.
“Everything about the company has changed,” Nwachukwu stated. “We’ve invested heavily in technology, transformed our internal processes, and redefined our service delivery. This company, with over a hundred years of history, has truly been reborn — in name, vision, mission, and values.”
She described the guiding philosophy behind the transformation using the acronym REXIT — standing for Resilience, Efficiency, Excellence, Integrity, and Teamwork.
Looking ahead, Nwachukwu revealed that 2025 will focus on business growth and profitability, building on the foundational work done over the past year.
“Our theme for 2025 is ‘Building Synergy and Growth.’ We’ve laid the groundwork, and now it’s time to intentionally drive profitability. Cost and process optimisation will be key as we work to deliver value to our shareholders who have stood by us through challenging times,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, Chief Digital Officer, Mr. Adeyinka Aderonbi, highlighted the insurer’s commitment to digital transformation, noting that automation and technological upgrades have been embedded across operations to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.
In his remarks, President and Chairman of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Mr. Babatunde Oguntade, praised Rex Insurance for its progress and renewed vision.
“Rex Insurance is where insurance works,” Oguntade said. “You are moving in the right direction, and brokers will continue to support companies that demonstrate innovation and integrity.”
He also called for broader image reform across the insurance industry, urging practitioners to align with ethical standards and professionalism.
“Brokers will work with progressive and positive underwriters, but we will not support any oppressive ones. It’s not a threat; it’s a matter of principle. Those who protect our livelihoods give us life,” he added.
With its refreshed identity and renewed sense of purpose, Rex Insurance appears poised to reclaim a leading role in Nigeria’s insurance sector, backed by a clear strategy, modern infrastructure, and strong industry partnerships.
