More than 900 employees of Nigeria’s leading insurance company, AXA Mansard, have taken a bold stand against domestic and sexual violence affecting children across the country. As part of its annual social responsibility initiative, AXA Week for Good, the volunteers participated in a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting prevention.
In Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, hundreds of AXA Mansard staff visited schools to educate students and teachers on how to identify, prevent, and report instances of domestic and sexual abuse. The week-long initiative emphasized the company’s belief that every child deserves a safe and supportive environment to grow and thrive.
AXA Week for Good is the flagship employee volunteering programme under AXA Hearts in Action (AHIA) — a global platform through which AXA encourages employees to drive positive social and environmental change through volunteerism, knowledge sharing, and direct support.
“Through AHIA, our employees don’t just give time — they give purpose,” said Rashidat Adebisi, Chief Client Officer at AXA Mansard. “We act together for human progress by protecting what matters, including vulnerable communities and those who often have no voice.”
This year’s campaign carried the powerful theme: “Being a Girl Shouldn’t Be a Risk”, focusing on the unique vulnerabilities faced by girls in Nigeria. AXA Mansard volunteers participated in public sensitization walks and outreach campaigns, calling attention to the urgent need to safeguard children, particularly girls, from all forms of violence.
Speaking further, Adebisi highlighted the staggering scale of the problem, noting that children and adolescents aged 0–17 make up nearly half of Nigeria’s population — approximately 105 million. “For a nation betting on the strength of its youth to power economic development, the prevalence of violence against children is a direct threat to our future,” she said.
She cited studies indicating that six out of ten Nigerian children experience at least one form of violence before the age of 18. “This is a national emergency,” Adebisi stressed. “Our employees are responding to this call for action to ensure that the thousands of Nigerian girls enduring physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological violence find safe spaces, access to support, and, ultimately, justice.”
The company’s commitment to social responsibility is evident in its numbers: in 2024 alone, over 50% of AXA Mansard’s workforce volunteered through AHIA, collectively logging more than 23,000 volunteer hours. Their efforts underline a core belief that sustainable change begins with empowered people.
AXA Mansard continues to lead the charge in demonstrating that corporate responsibility extends beyond the boardroom. Through initiatives like AXA Week for Good, the company is not only making a difference — it is setting a new standard for business as a force for good in society.
