
Sanlam Group has announced a new timeline for the 2024 Sanlam Group Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism. Entries for the prestigious awards will now open in January 2025, a shift designed to align the awards with the group’s 50th-anniversary celebration.
This update was revealed in a statement by Allim Milazi, Sanlam Group Communications, titled, “Countdown to the opening for 2024 Sanlam Group Awards Entries,” and made available to the media.
The statement reads: “In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Sanlam Group Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism, we are proud to invite journalists from all over Africa to submit their work across various categories, as we continue to recognise the exceptional talent and journalism within the industry. Please be informed that the 2024 competition will open for entries in January 2025. Look out for the official announcement and entry details in January! We appreciate your support and encourage you to spread the word to your fellow financial journalists. Thank you, and we can’t wait to see your entries!”
The Sanlam Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism, established in 1974, are renowned for recognizing outstanding reporting that highlights the role of business and investment in shaping Africa’s growth. Categories include the African Growth Story prize, which focuses on topics such as investment, infrastructure development, and economic progress on the continent.
The annual event offers significant monetary rewards: category winners receive R25,000 each, the overall winner earns an additional R35,000, and the best newcomer is awarded R20,000.
