The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has announced plans to collaborate with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to enrol pensioners in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) starting next year.
Executive Secretary/CEO of PTAD, Mrs. Tolulope Odunaiya, disclosed this at a media parley in Lagos. Represented by the Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Olugbenga Ajayi, she said the initiative is aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of pensioners across the country.
“For us at PTAD, our focus is on the comfort and welfare of our pensioners. We have begun negotiations for their inclusion in the NHIS because we understand that retirees require healthcare support more than those still in active service,” Odunaiya stated.
She added that PTAD is targeting at least 90 per cent enrolment of its pensioners in the scheme by 2026.
Highlighting other measures to improve efficiency, the PTAD boss noted that the agency has introduced Mobile Verification for incapacitated pensioners who cannot attend physical verification. “Our teams from Lagos and Kaduna offices are always on the field to ensure pensioners’ issues are treated with urgency,” she said.
Odunaiya further assured that PTAD is committed to clearing all arrears and outstanding entitlements by 2026. “We are working hard to ensure all arrears and pension increments are fully captured in our budget, so there will be no further issues regarding these payments,” she added.
She noted that PTAD currently operates in 13 states and continues to expand its reach to better serve pensioners nationwide.
