At least 250 delegates, including insurance experts, financial professionals, and policymakers from across Africa, are expected to gather in Lagos this October for the 2025 West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) Education Conference.
The event, hosted by the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), will run from Sunday, October 12 to Wednesday, October 15 at the Grand Ballroom of Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island.
With the theme “The West African Insurer in the Face of Climate Change,” the conference will explore how insurers in the region can adapt to the growing challenges posed by climate-related risks.
Delegates from WAICA’s five member countries—Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia—are expected to attend, making the gathering a key regional platform for collaboration and policy discussions.
Organizers say the programme will focus on the implications of climate change for the insurance industry, including rising claims, higher risk exposures, and the pressure to design innovative products. Sessions will also highlight strategies for building resilience and ensuring the sustainability of insurance education and practice.
Africa’s insurance sector faces increasing exposure to extreme weather events, floods, droughts, and disruptions to agriculture—factors that directly affect communities and economies. Experts believe the Lagos conference will offer insurers an opportunity to develop stronger collective responses while aligning with global standards on sustainable insurance.
