The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has expressed sympathy to victims of the recent fire outbreaks at Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza in Lagos, assuring that insurance claims will be settled promptly.
In a statement, the association described the incident as a tragic loss of lives and property, noting that its members who provided insurance cover for the affected buildings have been identified. It added that compensation will be paid in line with valid insurance policies.
“We deeply mourn the loss of lives and property and stand in solidarity with those who are grieving and rebuilding in the aftermath of this unfortunate event. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The NIA, which serves as the umbrella body for insurance and reinsurance firms in Nigeria, reaffirmed the industry’s commitment to providing financial recovery in times of crisis.
The association also urged Nigerians, particularly business owners, to see insurance as an essential tool for risk management. “The importance of being insured cannot be overstated, especially in a world where unforeseen events can have far-reaching consequences,” it said.
