The newly elected President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Mrs. Ekeoma Ezeibe, has unveiled her administration’s strategic agenda themed “One Insurance Industry”, with Abia State chosen as the pilot location for a nationwide insurance penetration and awareness campaign.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lagos, Ezeibe said the initiative aims to deepen insurance adoption across Nigeria by partnering with the Abia State Government and leveraging the economic vibrancy of Aba and other key markets in the state. She noted that the ongoing infrastructural renewal and commercial revival in the Southeast made Abia an ideal starting point for the nationwide campaign.
“Abia was carefully selected to test our strategy before extending it to other parts of the country,” Ezeibe explained. “Insurance awareness is still low in many regions outside the Southwest, and this initiative will help bridge that gap.”
The NCRIB president outlined five key priorities of her tenure:
- Deepening insurance penetration nationwide
- Completing the Olola Olabode Ogunlana House project
- Strengthening collaboration with the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM)
- Building capacity and mentorship for brokers
- Enhancing stakeholder engagement across the industry
Ezeibe emphasised that the “One Insurance Industry” agenda seeks to unify the sector and place insurance at the heart of Nigeria’s economic development.
“As brokers, we are the bridge between insurers and consumers. It is our duty to take advantage of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 to promote awareness, trust, and consumer protection,” she said.
The NCRIB boss called for stronger collaboration among brokers, underwriters, loss adjusters, the media, policyholders, and NAICOM, stressing that collective effort is vital to achieving meaningful growth.
She revealed that after consolidating the initiative in Abia, the Council’s next phase would focus on Northern Nigeria, where insurance awareness remains particularly low.
Ezeibe also pledged to build upon the legacies of her predecessors while fostering a robust partnership with NAICOM and other industry arms. She assured that both large and small brokers would be empowered to expand their operations and contribute more effectively to national economic growth.
Highlighting her administration’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Ezeibe said the Council would prioritise initiatives that positively impact society, noting that “the insurance industry can only thrive when the people it serves are satisfied and protected.”
She urged all stakeholders to unite behind her administration’s vision of transforming the insurance sector, saying a strong, trusted, and inclusive insurance industry is essential to Nigeria’s sustainable economic future.
