Stanbic IBTC Insurance Limited has strengthened its standing in Africa’s financial services sector after emerging as the overall winner of the CRe Momentum Award.
The recognition was announced at the inaugural CRe Insurance Awards for Africa 2026, held alongside the Continental Reinsurance CEO Summit in Kigali on April 17.
According to the organisers, the company stood out for its strong execution and strategic focus on expanding life insurance. Its bancassurance model integrating insurance offerings within banking platforms was highlighted as a benchmark for effectiveness across the continent.
Judges praised the firm’s consistent commercial performance and disciplined approach, describing its business model as one of the most effective in Africa.
The award capped an impressive outing for Nigerian companies. Cornerstone Insurance Plc placed second in the same category, while La Générale des Assurances finished third.
Beyond corporate recognition, the summit also celebrated excellence in journalism at the 11th Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalism Awards, where Nigerian journalists featured prominently.
Lawrence Nazare, Group CEO of Continental Reinsurance Holdings, noted that participation expanded significantly this year, with 10 additional countries represented. He commended journalists for elevating reporting standards within the insurance sector.
Among the award recipients were Henry Uche of Daily Sun, who won the English Online category, and Blessing Ifechukwude, who topped the English Broadcast category. Josephine Ogundeji also received recognition, winning the Dr Femi Oyetunji Future Talent Award and finishing as first runner-up in the English Print category.
Chief Judge Michael Wilson remarked on the increasing quality of entries, noting that selecting winners from 184 submissions was particularly challenging. He said the improvement reflects growing expertise across both the insurance industry and the media professionals covering it.
