Insurer launches annuitant rewards programme and retirees’ community initiative, combining financial guidance, health support and social engagement.
Beyond Monthly Payments: Heirs Insurance Puts Retiree Wellbeing in Spotlight
Heirs Insurance Group is broadening its engagement with retirees beyond annuity payments, launching a dedicated rewards programme and community initiative aimed at supporting the financial, health and social wellbeing of annuitants.
The insurer unveiled the initiative at its inaugural Heirs Insurance Retirees Meetup, bringing together more than 1,000 retirees for a programme centred on wellness, financial guidance, learning, networking and recreation.
The event reflects a growing emphasis on the needs of retirees beyond income security, with participants receiving access to expert-led sessions, complimentary health screenings and practical guidance designed to help them navigate life after active employment.
A key feature of the initiative was the launch of the Heirs Insurance Rewards Programme, which gives annuitants access to discounts from selected health and lifestyle partners.
The programme is intended to extend the insurer’s relationship with its customers beyond the payment of monthly annuities and provide additional value throughout retirement.
Speaking at the event, Chief Marketing Officer of Heirs Insurance Group, Ifesinachi Okpagu, said retirees had spent decades contributing to families, communities and the economy but were not always sufficiently represented in discussions around financial wellbeing and quality of life.
“Through the Heirs Insurance Retirees Meetup and our growing Retirees Club, we are intentionally creating a platform that brings retirees together, celebrates them and gives them access to the information, support and community they need to thrive in retirement.”
The insurer’s Heirs Insurance Retirees Club is positioned as a community for retirees and pre-retirees, offering practical retirement information, exclusive events, product and service updates, partner discounts and customer milestone benefits.
The latest initiative also places social connection alongside financial planning and healthcare as important components of retirement wellbeing. Participants were given opportunities to interact with peers, exchange experiences and establish social networks in a supportive setting.
For the insurance sector, the approach highlights the potential for insurers to deepen relationships with annuity customers by addressing broader retirement needs rather than focusing exclusively on financial products.
Retirement income remains a critical part of financial security after employment, but retirees can also face challenges linked to healthcare costs, changing lifestyles, social isolation and the management of long-term finances. Initiatives that combine financial services with health and lifestyle benefits therefore offer insurers another avenue for customer engagement.
An industry observer who spoke anonymously welcomed the initiative and urged Heirs Insurance Group to maintain its focus on retirees, citing the difficulties experienced by many older Nigerians.
The observer also called for broader attention to the welfare and wellbeing of older people, describing the engagement of senior citizens as an important step toward building a more supportive retirement environment.
For Heirs Insurance, the retirees programme represents a shift from a conventional insurer-customer relationship toward a longer-term engagement model in which annuitants remain connected to the company and its partner ecosystem throughout retirement.
