The Chairman of the Nigerian National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme and Managing Director of Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, Dr. Lucas Durojaiye, has called for stronger institutional cooperation to improve the effectiveness of the regional insurance scheme.
Durojaiye made the call during a three-day working visit to the Permanent Secretariat of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme in Lomé, Togo, where he held high-level discussions on the development and future direction of the initiative.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Nigerian National Bureau and the Permanent Secretariat to examine issues affecting the operation of the scheme and explore ways to deepen cooperation among member bureaux.
Discussions during the visit focused on several key areas, including institutional collaboration, operational efficiency, claims management, digital transformation and improved relations between national bureaux and the Permanent Secretariat.
The parties also considered the importance of strengthening the scheme’s contribution to regional integration by ensuring that its operations remain efficient, transparent and responsive to the needs of motorists and other stakeholders across the ECOWAS region.
The Permanent Secretariat welcomed the Nigerian delegation and praised the Nigerian National Bureau for its continued cooperation and commitment to the objectives of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme.
The engagement also underscored the need for regular consultations and sustained collaboration among member bureaux as the scheme pursues institutional reforms and embraces digital technology.
The Permanent Secretariat said it remained committed to working with all member bureaux to develop a more efficient, transparent and digitally enabled ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme.
It further expressed appreciation to Durojaiye and the Nigerian National Bureau for their visit and continued support for the regional initiative.
The ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme is designed to facilitate cross-border motor insurance protection within the West African region, making cooperation among participating national bureaux important to its effective implementation.
