Pensioners of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) have commended the agency’s management for implementing approved pension increases and settling outstanding arrears, including entitlements arising from a Supreme Court judgment after more than two decades of litigation.
The retirees, under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), NSITF Chapter, praised the Managing Director of the agency, Oluwaseun Faleye, and his management team for addressing longstanding welfare concerns affecting former employees.
In a letter of commendation dated October 7, 2026, the union expressed appreciation for what it described as management’s commitment to improving the welfare of pensioners who served the country during their working years.
The letter, titled Letter of Commendation and Appreciation, was signed by the chapter’s President, Danlami Aliyu, and Secretary, Olutekunbi Fred Ayodele, with reference number NUP/NSITF/2026/004.
According to the union, the implementation of the pension adjustments and payment of outstanding entitlements had provided considerable relief to retirees facing financial challenges.
The pensioners particularly welcomed the payment of an additional N32,000 in monthly pension benefits across the board, alongside accrued arrears approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
They said the implementation demonstrated the management’s willingness to translate approved pension policies into tangible benefits for retired workers.
Pensioners Welcome Approved Increases
The NUP NSITF Chapter also acknowledged the implementation of the 20 per cent and 28 per cent pension increases, describing the adjustments as important measures towards improving retirees’ financial welfare.
The union noted that timely payment of approved pension benefits was particularly significant for pensioners who depend on their monthly entitlements to meet essential expenses.
It commended the management for responding to concerns raised by the retired workforce and taking steps to address outstanding obligations.
The pensioners said the measures reflected greater attention to the needs of former employees, many of whom had devoted years of service to the institution.
Supreme Court Judgment Ends Long Wait for Some Retirees
A major highlight of the commendation was the implementation of a Supreme Court judgment concerning pension entitlements for affected retirees.
According to the union, some of the pensioners covered by the judgment had spent more than 23 years pursuing their claims through the courts.
The NUP NSITF Chapter described the settlement of the longstanding dispute as a significant development for retirees who had waited decades for their entitlements to be addressed.
It said the action brought relief to affected pensioners and demonstrated the importance of implementing judicial decisions concerning workers’ welfare.
In the letter, the union praised Faleye’s approach to addressing the concerns of retired employees, describing his interventions as evidence of management’s commitment to their wellbeing.
“Sir, these actions are not only commendable but have demonstrated your good intention, integrity and fatherly disposition towards our senior citizens who served the nation diligently,” the pensioners stated.
The union added that the management’s actions deserved recognition because they addressed longstanding grievances and strengthened pensioners’ confidence in the institution.
“You deserve all accolades for this laudable feat, posterity will forever remember you and your management for this gesture and sincerity of purpose,” the pensioners added.
Focus on Retirees’ Welfare
The commendation highlights the importance of timely pension adjustments and the settlement of outstanding retirement benefits in protecting the welfare of former workers.
For the affected NSITF pensioners, the implementation of the court judgment and payment of arrears represent progress in resolving claims that had remained outstanding for many years.
The union’s statement also underscores retirees’ expectations that approved pension increases and other entitlements should be implemented without unnecessary delays.
While commending the current management, the pensioners expressed appreciation for the steps taken to address their concerns and improve their financial circumstances.
The development places pension administration and the implementation of retirement benefits at the centre of discussions about institutional responsibility towards workers who have completed their years of service.
