AIICO Insurance Plc has reinforced its commitment to public health and community development through a large-scale malaria prevention outreach conducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, in commemoration of World Malaria Day 2026.
The initiative, implemented in partnership with a health-focused non-governmental organisation, targeted vulnerable populations across four Primary Health Centres in Ibadan North Local Government Area. More than 5,000 residents benefited from the programme, which combined health education with the distribution of essential preventive tools.
As part of the intervention, 600 long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) were distributed to pregnant women and nursing mothers, groups considered most at risk of malaria-related complications. In addition, structured awareness sessions were held to educate participants on malaria prevention, early diagnosis, and effective treatment.
The company noted that malaria remains a major public health concern in Nigeria, which accounts for a significant share of global malaria cases. Against this backdrop, the outreach focused on promoting behavioural change, improving access to preventive resources, and strengthening community-level awareness.
Head of Marketing and Communications at AIICO Insurance, Segun Olalandu, stated that sustained interventions are critical to reducing the disease burden, particularly in high-risk communities.
Also speaking, the company’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Manager, Abimbola Shobanjo, emphasized the disproportionate impact of malaria on maternal and child health. She noted that tackling the disease requires a comprehensive approach that goes beyond awareness to include access to preventive tools and community engagement.
The initiative reflects AIICO’s broader sustainability agenda, which prioritises health, wellbeing, and long-term social impact. The company reiterated its commitment to supporting programmes that contribute to improved health outcomes and stronger communities across Nigeria.
