Insurance provider emPLE has partnered with Medplus Pharmacy Limited to deliver free preventive healthcare services to entrepreneurs at the Badagry International Market, as part of efforts to promote early disease detection and improve community wellbeing.
The medical outreach, held on June 17, 2026, benefited about 100 traders with a range of free health services, including blood pressure and blood glucose checks, malaria testing, Hepatitis B screening, medical consultations and medication support.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of emPLE General Insurance, Olalekan Oyinlade, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting individuals beyond the provision of insurance products by investing in preventive healthcare.
According to him, the screening revealed several underlying health concerns among participants, with 25 per cent testing positive for malaria, 22 per cent diagnosed with high blood pressure, 15 per cent recording elevated blood glucose levels and four per cent testing positive for Hepatitis B.
Oyinlade noted that identifying these conditions at an early stage enabled participants to receive prompt medical attention, counselling, referrals and treatment support, helping to reduce the risk of more serious health complications.
Also speaking during the outreach, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of emPLE Life Assurance Limited, Jolaolu Fakoya, said the exercise highlighted the growing need for greater health awareness among small business owners.
He observed that while many entrepreneurs dedicate significant effort to expanding and protecting their businesses, they often pay less attention to their personal health, despite the potential impact of illness on their productivity and financial stability.
Fakoya stressed that preventive healthcare remains essential for sustaining livelihoods, adding that regular health checks can help business owners detect medical conditions early, improve their quality of life and safeguard the continuity of their enterprises.
The outreach forms part of emPLE’s broader corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at improving access to healthcare while encouraging a culture of prevention and wellness within local communities.
