The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has announced plans to use its 2026 Insurance Week to intensify public awareness efforts, with a strong focus on engaging young people across the country.
The event, scheduled to run from May 15 to May 26, represents the second edition of the initiative and is expected to expand insurance education beyond traditional audiences to include students at various levels, including primary school pupils.
According to the institute, the campaign will aim to make insurance education more accessible and engaging for younger audiences by introducing interactive and simplified learning approaches.
The CIIN President, Yetunde Ilori, stated that all chapters of the institute nationwide will participate simultaneously, making the programme one of the most geographically extensive insurance awareness campaigns ever conducted in Nigeria.
She emphasized that the initiative goes beyond a ceremonial event, describing it as a strategic effort to address low insurance penetration in the country.
“This is not merely a celebration but a call to action. Without adequate insurance coverage, both the economy and citizens remain exposed to risks. Expanding participation and deepening awareness are therefore essential,” she said.
The 2026 edition of Insurance Week is themed “Insurance: A Future Redefined,” reflecting the institute’s position that the sector’s future is actively being shaped through current reforms, innovation, and increased public engagement.
CIIN noted that the initiative aligns with broader industry goals to strengthen financial inclusion, improve risk management awareness, and position insurance as a critical component of everyday life in Nigeria.
