Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc is setting its sights on sustainable expansion following the successful completion of its recapitalisation, with the insurer pledging to strengthen customer service, invest in technology and broaden access to insurance and financial protection solutions.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Femi Asenuga, said the stronger capital position would provide a platform for the insurer to pursue its next phase of growth while reinforcing its relationship with customers across Nigeria.
Asenuga said Mutual Benefits had spent more than three decades building a reputation around providing protection to individuals and businesses at critical moments.
He said the company’s experience in protecting families, businesses and assets had established a foundation of customer trust that would guide its post-recapitalisation strategy.
“For over three decades, Nigerians have entrusted Mutual Benefits with what matters most to them. This includes their families, businesses, assets and financial futures. That trust is both our greatest privilege and our greatest responsibility,” he said.
According to him, the recapitalisation would enable the company to strengthen its capacity to serve customers, develop new solutions and pursue long-term growth.
Beyond regulatory compliance
Asenuga said the significance of the recapitalisation extended beyond satisfying regulatory requirements.
He explained that the additional financial strength would allow the company to increase investments in products, technology, customer experience and service delivery as the needs of policyholders continue to evolve.
Mutual Benefits’ business portfolio includes both life and non-life insurance products. Its offerings cover areas such as motor, home, marine, fire and special perils, travel and group life insurance.
The company also provides solutions designed to support children’s education, retirement planning, savings and investment.
Asenuga said the insurer was particularly focused on ensuring that its investments translated into tangible improvements for customers.
“Our ambition is not simply to grow bigger, but to become better for our customers,” he said.
He added that investments in technology, employees, products and services must ultimately deliver greater convenience, stronger value and increased confidence for customers and businesses.
Digital transformation takes centre stage
The insurer is also stepping up its digital transformation efforts as customers increasingly demand easier and more convenient ways to access and manage insurance services.
According to Asenuga, Mutual Benefits is strengthening its digital platforms and reviewing customer journeys to simplify interactions with the company.
The strategy includes improving online accessibility while placing greater emphasis on customer engagement and service delivery.
He said the objective was to make insurance easier for Nigerians to understand, purchase and interact with throughout the life of their policies.
Building resilience
The company’s growth strategy comes at a time when individuals and businesses are facing changing economic conditions and increasing financial pressures.
Asenuga said these circumstances had made insurance more important as a tool for managing uncertainty and protecting assets.
He said Mutual Benefits intended to focus its post-recapitalisation strategy on sustainable growth, innovation, operational efficiency and deeper customer engagement.
The insurer also plans to expand access to protection and financial solutions that respond to the changing circumstances of Nigerians.
According to Asenuga, the company’s three decades of experience provide a strong foundation, but the next phase would require continued efforts to earn and reinforce customer confidence.
“We are proud of the journey Mutual Benefits has taken over the past 30 years, but we are even more focused on what lies ahead,” he said.
He added that the company’s stronger financial foundation would create opportunities to serve more Nigerians, deliver greater value and deepen the trust that has supported its operations over the years.
Mutual Benefits, he said, remains committed to positioning itself as a long-term protection partner capable of supporting customers as they protect their assets, prepare for unexpected events and pursue their financial goals.
