The Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Oluwaseun Faleye, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fully implementing the Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS) to benefit federal civil servants.
Faleye made this known during a press briefing hosted by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, where new welfare improvements for federal workers were unveiled in Abuja.
He praised the federal government for introducing the enhanced welfare package, describing it as a significant step toward improving the living standards of civil servants. According to him, the NSITF is ready to support the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) by ensuring effective and transparent implementation of the ECS.
Faleye emphasized that the initiative reflects strong leadership and a clear commitment to workers’ welfare. He reiterated that the NSITF board and management are dedicated to delivering the scheme efficiently, particularly for civil servants covered under the treasury-funded arrangement.
As part of efforts to strengthen the scheme, he highlighted the establishment of a dedicated ECS desk within the OHCSF. The office is designed to serve as a central hub for awareness, guidance, and support, helping civil servants better understand the scheme and how to access its benefits.
He explained that the desk will provide continuous education and assistance, ensuring workers know how to comply with requirements and take advantage of the scheme, especially in cases of work-related incidents or challenges.
Faleye also noted that, under a Memorandum of Understanding between the NSITF and the OHCSF, both bodies have committed to delivering prompt and professional services while expanding awareness campaigns across ministries, departments, and agencies.
In her remarks, Walson-Jack described the newly introduced welfare package as a landmark achievement under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She stated that the reforms mark a shift from promises to tangible improvements in the civil service.
She further commended the NSITF for its strong collaboration, noting that the agency has successfully transformed a long-standing legal provision into a practical system that protects civil servants and their families.
