The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) have expressed profound grief over the passing of Mr. Rotimi Edu, former President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB).
In separate condolence statements issued on Sunday, both organisations described Edu as a visionary leader and a pillar of Nigeria’s insurance industry, whose contributions have left a lasting legacy.
Edu, who served as the 21st President of NCRIB, was widely recognised for his role in strengthening collaboration between insurers and brokers, as well as promoting unity across the industry.
The Chairman of NIA, Mr. Kunle Ahmed, said the association received news of Edu’s death with deep shock and sadness, describing him as an exceptional leader, accomplished legal practitioner, and dedicated insurance professional.
According to Ahmed, Edu’s tenure as NCRIB President was marked by strategic initiatives that enhanced cooperation within the sector and advanced its overall development.
“His passing leaves a significant void that will be deeply felt across the financial services industry,” he stated.
Ahmed further noted that Edu distinguished himself through professionalism, ethical conduct, and selfless service, adding that his membership of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) reflected his commitment to policy reform and national development.
He extended condolences to the leadership of NCRIB, as well as the family, colleagues, and associates of the late insurance expert, noting that the industry would continue to draw inspiration from his legacy of integrity and leadership.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of NAICOM, Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, described Edu as a towering figure in the insurance broking profession.
Omosehin stated that Edu made a significant impact on the industry through his brilliance, foresight, and unwavering dedication to professional excellence.
He added that Edu’s legacy of integrity, courage, and progressive leadership would continue to inspire future generations of insurance practitioners.
