Leadway Assurance has strengthened its long-standing collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps through the launch of the Arrive Alive campaign, an initiative designed to promote responsible driving and reward motorists who comply with road safety standards.
The campaign reflects a joint effort to enhance road safety awareness, encourage behavioural change among drivers, and reduce the incidence of preventable road traffic accidents across Nigeria.
Promoting Safer Driving Culture
The Arrive Alive initiative is focused on deepening public understanding of safe driving practices while reinforcing compliance with traffic regulations. It also introduces an incentive-based approach, recognising and rewarding motorists who adhere to safety requirements such as proper documentation, use of seat belts, and possession of essential safety equipment.
Public Engagement and Awareness
As part of the campaign rollout, a webinar titled “Arrive Alive Because Life is Priceless” was held on 6 May 2026. The session featured insights from the Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, and Leadway’s Head of Technical Risk Management, Otuyemi Olatunde.
The speakers highlighted critical safety measures motorists should adopt, including maintaining first aid kits and fire extinguishers in vehicles. They also addressed key causes of road accidents such as driver distraction, negligence, and unsafe road behaviour, while correcting common misconceptions about road safety.
On-Ground Sensitisation
The awareness campaign extended beyond the webinar, with live sensitisation exercises conducted at the FRSC office and motor parks in Ojota, Lagos. During these engagements, both private and commercial drivers received practical guidance on safe driving habits and regulatory compliance.
Motorists who demonstrated adherence to safety standards were publicly recognised and rewarded, reinforcing positive road behaviour through incentives.
Addressing a Growing Safety Concern
According to data from the FRSC, Nigeria recorded 10,446 road crashes in 2025, representing a 9.2% increase from 2024. The fatalities from these incidents were reported at 5,289, underscoring the urgency of sustained intervention and public awareness.
Commenting on the initiative, Leadway’s Executive Director, Technical & Operations, Olufunmilayo Amanwa, noted that the campaign aligns with the company’s broader commitment to safeguarding lives beyond insurance services.
Similarly, FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, emphasised that most road accidents are preventable when motorists make responsible decisions, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration between regulatory bodies and private organisations.
Strengthening Public-Private Collaboration
The partnership underscores the growing role of private sector involvement in addressing national safety challenges. By combining advocacy, education, and incentives, the initiative aims to foster a culture of accountability, improve compliance with traffic laws, and ultimately reduce avoidable road traffic incidents across Nigeria.
