Companies across Nigeria’s banking, insurance and other sectors have listed shares and securities worth about N2.7 trillion on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) so far in 2026, following a wave of capital-raising activities.
The new listings were generated through various fundraising channels, including public offers, rights issues, private placements and bond transactions, as companies moved to strengthen their balance sheets and meet regulatory capital requirements.
An analysis of NGX data showed that Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc recorded the largest value of newly listed shares during the period, followed by Presco Plc.
Dangote Sugar Refinery listed 8.09 billion additional ordinary shares at N60 per share, with the transaction valued at approximately N485.9 billion. The shares were issued through a rights issue on the basis of two new shares for every three existing shares held by eligible shareholders.
Presco, meanwhile, listed shares valued at about N236.7 billion following its rights issue, which was priced at N1,420 per share on the basis of one new ordinary share for every six existing shares.
The insurance industry also accounted for a significant portion of the new listings as operators worked to comply with the recapitalisation requirements of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
Ten insurance companies collectively listed approximately N118.89 billion worth of shares during the period.
International Energy Insurance Plc recorded the largest insurance-sector listing at N25.8 billion. The amount arose from a public offer involving 5.47 billion ordinary shares priced at N3.20 each.
Lasaco Assurance Plc followed with N18.47 billion, while Linkage Assurance Plc listed N16.26 billion.
Other insurance companies that completed listings included Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc with N15 billion; Fortis Global Insurance Plc, N12 billion; Coronation Insurance Plc, N9.79 billion; Sunu Assurances Nigeria Plc, N9.3 billion; Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, N5.02 billion; Prestige Assurance Plc, N4.62 billion; and Regency Alliance Insurance Plc, N2.54 billion.
The banking sector also featured prominently among companies that increased their listed securities during the review period.
Fidelity Bank Plc, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, FCMB Group Plc, First HoldCo Plc, Access Holdings Plc, Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc and Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc collectively recorded listings valued at N652.01 billion.
The substantial capital-market activity reflects the continued efforts by financial institutions and other listed companies to raise additional funds, strengthen their financial positions and support business expansion.
For the banking and insurance industries in particular, the recapitalisation exercises have driven increased activity in the Nigerian capital market as operators seek to meet new regulatory requirements while positioning their businesses for further growth.
