Prudential Zenith Life Insurance and Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria have entered into a bancassurance partnership aimed at expanding access to life insurance products and advancing financial inclusion in Nigeria.
The collaboration brings together Prudential Zenith Life’s insurance expertise and Standard Chartered’s banking platform to integrate life insurance solutions into customers’ everyday banking experience, making financial protection more accessible to individuals and families.
Under the arrangement, Standard Chartered customers will have access to a portfolio of life insurance products designed to address a range of financial protection needs, including income protection, family security, education planning and long-term financial wellbeing.
The partners said the initiative is intended to narrow Nigeria’s insurance protection gap by simplifying the purchase and management of insurance through an established banking relationship.
Bancassurance—the distribution of insurance products through banking channels—has increasingly become a key strategy for insurers seeking to expand market reach while offering customers greater convenience through integrated financial services.
The partnership combines Prudential Zenith Life’s underwriting capabilities with Standard Chartered’s customer network, enabling both organisations to deliver insurance solutions that are accessible, affordable and aligned with customers’ financial goals.
The agreement also builds on the longstanding global relationship between Prudential and Standard Chartered, which spans 27 years across 11 markets in Africa and Asia.
Commenting on the partnership, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, Afolabi Lawal, said the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to extending financial protection to more Nigerians.
According to him, integrating life insurance into routine banking services will make insurance products easier to understand and more relevant to customers at different stages of life, while helping households strengthen their financial resilience.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria, Ayodeji Adelagun, said the alliance supports the bank’s strategy of delivering holistic financial solutions that go beyond traditional banking services.
He noted that embedding insurance offerings within the bank’s product suite will enhance its wealth management proposition while contributing to broader efforts to improve financial inclusion across the country.
Industry analysts view bancassurance as an increasingly important distribution channel in Nigeria, where insurance penetration remains among the lowest globally. By leveraging banks’ extensive customer relationships and digital platforms, insurers can reach a wider segment of the population without relying solely on conventional agency networks.
Prudential Zenith Life became a wholly owned subsidiary of Prudential Plc following the acquisition of full ownership in 2024. The company provides a broad range of life insurance solutions, including individual protection plans, group life cover, investment-linked products, mortgage protection and education savings policies.
Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria is part of the Standard Chartered Group and provides corporate and institutional banking, wealth management and transaction banking services to customers across the country.
The partnership reflects the growing convergence of banking and insurance services as financial institutions seek innovative ways to broaden access to protection products and meet the evolving needs of Nigerian consumers.
